CTBUH Names “2016 Tall Building Awards” Recipients

Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) announced the list of recipients of the CTBUH 2016 Tall Building Awards. TAIPEI 101 is recognized for its continued efforts in green energy and sustainable development, and has been name the recipient of the Performance Award.

According to the press release by CTBUH, the CTBUH Best Tall Building awards, like most awards programs, recognize new buildings. However, it is increasingly being recognized that the industry needs to focus on actual “performance” rather than “best intentions.” TAIPEI 101 already implemented a high level of performance when it was completed in 2004; but over the past 12 years, the management team has continued to rigorously adopt and implement a comprehensive sustainability program, allowing the tower to not only meet green standards recognized around the world, but to also reinvent itself to set higher bars, becoming a world-famous green building. CTBUH points out that the sustainability program for the tower is comprehensive – from the installation of numerous efficient lighting fixtures and plumbing systems, to a robust waste collection system and occupant engagement scheme. Equally successful is the tower’s collection of data, which is examined and reflected upon as systems are further optimized over time. These are the main reasons TAIPEI 101 is the winner of this year’s Performance Award.

This year’s CTBUH Tall Building Awards saw 132 submissions vying for recognition. All award winners were recognized at the CTBUH 15th Annual Awards Symposium, which took place at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, on November 3.
